Just before we left for DK we heard through the parent grapevine about upcoming soccer tryouts at the high school where IK will be attending this fall. I was going to say they started *bright* and early, but as you can see it was a bit more early than bright at 7am. You can see IK's shadow toward the right side of the photo with the ball and the mixed matched socks...it's a trendy, good luck thing.
The tryouts were VERY intense! So much so, they put all the strength training sessions I do to shame! There's no way I could've kept up with the grueling physical torture those boys went through! The tryouts lasted for 2 days, with mandatory tryout sessions on Monday and Tuesday from 7-8:30am AND 7-8:30pm.
That's IK's best friend TJ with him above, and the back of their high school in the background. IK's other best friend IS also tried out for the team.
Unfortunately for IK, when we returned from DK he was incredibly sick!!! He was in tons of pain and simply miserable during these tryouts...after taking him to the doctor we later learned he had 2 extremely painful ear infections AND strep throat, which he later so kindly shared with the rest of the family.
Sadly, after giving it his best effort despite being in so much pain, IK didn't make the cut. We firmly believe he would have made the team if he had not been sick. IS made the team, but TJ was also cut, so TJ and IK will continue to play soccer in the recreational league they've been playing in for years, where they'll also continue to referee as a part-time job.
