Randomness - March 28, 2008

So anybody else sick of hearing me talk about the never ending spring cleaning preparations? Yup, thought so, since I'm sick of it myself. By that's been my life the past few days. It's just really slow progress when you have 2 people in college full-time, 4 kids, and very overloaded schedules. But it's progress, nevertheless.

I finally rented a storage unit down the street and made 2 trips full of boxes to help de-clutter the garage. This weekend I'm trying to sell a bunch of furniture we no longer want/need. It's part of my continuing efforts to make the house look less crowded, but also has a hidden agenda to make enough money to buy a nice replacement vacuum for the one my kids have put through a very painful, agonizing death.

A fun new side bonus to the new laundry room floor, we now have a dancing washer! Every time we run a load of clothes our washer decides to dance all around the laundry room never ending in the same place. It's not because of really unbalanced loads it's just the vibrations during the spin cycle. I think we're going to look for a washer & dryer tray to slide underneath to keep them still and to help protect the new floor.

EJ has been receiving tons of boxes of clothes from really great deals I found on eBay. She really lucked out yesterday when one of the sellers accidentally shipped me the WRONG auction and we received 9 additional clothing items. It turns out that auction had not sold, so I contacted the seller and paid a whopping $6.50 to just keep those items and the clothes I did buy are now on their way too. Can't beat that!

When you have kids practically every trip to the store is filled with nonstop requests to buy them stuff. And now that they're receiving weekly allowance money of their own for doing their weekly chores, the kids are even more anxious to shop around and spend their dollars. The most exciting toys of late? Magic mermaids!

The magic mermaid lives inside a little magic shell. First you have to peel off the wrapper to reveal the magic shell, a lightly perfumed smelling blob of soap of some sort.

This toy is intended for bathtub fun, but since we were too excited to wait for tomorrow's baths we decided to speed things up in the sink full of warm water. You simply drop the magic shell into the warm water and watch...instantly the magic shell begins to fizz and turn into tons of bubbles floating all around. The magic shell gets smaller and smaller until it disappears completely.

And after it's gone, just like magic, your little mermaid appears at the bottom of the bubbles!

Of course there are 12 different mermaids to collect in all. And even better yet, the little mermaid's tail changes colors in warm and cold water.

Yup, that's a glimpse into the exciting life of a stay at home mom...who wouldn't want to stay at home and play with such really cool & amazing toys?! Hey, not bad for $4.00!
